Credit Card Points/Miles

Updated: Jul 3, 2019

This one is very simple. These are purchases/payments that you are going to have to make anyway, so why not earn points or cash back?! If you use this in conjunction with Ebates or Drop, it's a double whammy!

The idea is to pay off the balance every month, so you don't have to pay interest and can benefit to the fullest extent. Also, pick a card with rewards that you are most likely to use (Airline card if you fly a lot, Amazon if you shop a lot on Amazon.com, etc). Some cards like Amex and Discover have higher cash back/points percentages on things like gas and groceries.

Some of the stuff that I charge to my card or set on Autopay are things like gas, dining, groceries, light bills, cable bills, phone bills (click here to see free cell phone insurance benefit), car insurance (click here to see discounts), my meal delivery service kits, and other day-to-day expenses.

One thing to watch out for is credit card fees. For example, if your restaurant cash back is 2%, but the processing fee the merchant charges is 2% or more, then it is not worth using.

Setting some of these on Autopay sure beats having to login to every single portal and making the payment. It's a double win for me :)

I have redeemed thousands of dollars in cash back, and I hope you will too.
